"Gems for the Journey” Is a nonprofit organization aimed to increase self awareness, cultural and spiritual development, self enrichment and promote self improvement as it relates to the participants current environment. The aforementioned will be utilized and implemented through hands-on learning, interactive lectures and seminars, community activism and organizing with other agencies of uplift and self improvement.
Significance/Purpose- A gemstone is a highly prized mineral known for possessing the attributes of durability, rarity, beauty and in some cultures medicinal properties. The prime requisite for a “Gem” is that it must be beautiful. The beauty may lie in the color, the lack of color, light patterns and believe it or not imperfections. Another attribute that a Gem must possess is durability to be placed at high value. Each “Gem” member will be encouraged to actualize the fullest of human potential and consciousness. In correlation to the gemstone, Aboriginal (African) people maintain these same qualities and attributes. We are durable (resilient), highly prized, rare, beautiful people of the earth. As we undergo polishing, refining heat, our true “Gems for the Journey of life will emerge as tools to navigate along the way."
