Jim's Bio

Jim

Also Known As Gem
March 12th, 1996, Derrell Wayne Baldwin Jr., ingenerated the physical earth to his mother, LaSonja Hodo and his father, Derrell Wayne Baldwin Sr. Included among his siblings are three sisters and two brothers.  Jim, as he was affectionately referred to, received his nickname from his great uncle after holding him for the first time calling him “Big Jim”. Jim was a chubby baby and friends and family adored him. During the time of his birth and soon after, much consideration was given to name him after his maternal grandfather and his uncle James. Nevertheless, the nickname “Jim” seemed to fit just right.

After junior high and high school, Jim felt the name Jayy had more swag then Jim. So, the name was also added as a means to connect with Jim. After a few years of high school Jim decided to finish school at Mississippi Youth Challenge Academy (YCA) at Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, MS. He did not enjoy the typical classroom setting and the limited student involvement in the learning process. After entering the YCA, he found that it was not what he thought it would be, however; Jim made the best out of a challenging situation.  He quickly made new friends and obtained admiration from staff and faculty members.

After lots of hard work, early morning workouts, completing tons of community service hours, Jim learned to adapt within his environment. The hard work paid off, becoming  thirty pounds lighter and completing YCA December 2014. Upon returning home he decided to weigh out his opinions and his future direction.  In the meantime, he became a stock clerk for Kroger and months later took on a sales position with Metro PCS. Jim had a love and high regard for technology. He was a family person and loved family gatherings. He was very favorable towards birthdays and felt that the day brought a special significance and personal celebration to the individual. Knowledgeable and industrious are minimal characteristics to describe the best of Jim’s attributes. He was always interested in martial arts and the discipline involved. As he developed and earned his own money, he decided to join a local Dojo. He was ecstatic with his new decision and made new friends as well. Privately, Jim trained and put forth much dedicated effort for his first amateur fight. Unbelievably, before his first fight Jim made his earthly transition at the throbbing age of twenty-two years of age, November 9th, 2018.
